They have had a consistently strained relationship since Marceline's childhood, Marceline eventually kills The Empress with the help of Princess Bubblegum. Adventure Time is known for its' exploration of complex themes and yet still questions around some characters histories and relationships. Princess Bubblegum and Marceline kissed in the Adventure Time finale, and hinted at relationship between two of the main characters, Princess Naturally, he and Jake turn to their vampire friend Marceline for advice.
As the current incarnation of the Candy Elemental, Princess Bubblegum has the ability to project in various forms quantities of candy e. While her powers seem to be magically in nature, Bubblegum has been able to function her elemental abilities based on her own rudimentary knowledge of scientific principles.
Princess Bubblegum can communicate with previous incarnations of the Candy Elemental e. Chatsberry via lucid dreams. After being consumed by her elemental powers, Princess Bubblegum became connected to all candy across the galaxy.
She could also transform other people and objects into candy. Those affected were uncharacteristically joyful and ignorant of their life prior to their transformation. Relationships[ edit ] She is the former and current love interest of the protagonist, Finnand while the two are friends she never showed any real attraction to him, due to the age difference. During the time she is 13 in the episode " Too Young ", she is presented as having a crush on him.
After Finn got a new girlfriend, Flame Princess, his feelings for her seem to have faded, and Finn becomes angry with Princess Bubblegum when she informs Finn the two have to break up Finn thinks she is doing it out of jealousy; when actually it is because, for Flame Princess, the act of falling in love can destroy the Earth.
In some episodes, however, it is suggested Finn may still have feelings for Princess Bubblegum as in the episode "King Worm" he dreams that they are married. She is very protective of him, and seems to understand him well.
Neddy can be calmed down by Princess Bubblegum, further showing the attachment between the two. We don't need to figure it out, we just need to respect it".
This is a contrast to her usual scientific inquisitiveness, which really expresses her love for her infant-like brother, despite his oddities. She was also quick to defend him from the treacherous Gumbald which further showed her care for her brother.

Gumbald As a child, Bonnibel was lonely and gathered supplies while for her and Neddy. While out one day, she found a mug for an uncle and decided to make herself more family members so she would others to talk to. Bonnibel then gathered the items she needed and created three other gum humanoids Aunt Lolly, Cousin Chicle and Gumbald who she made her "Uncle".
They got along well but Bonnibel disagreed with his plans to make a city for Candy people and tried to counter them. Due to her acts, Gumbald turned against her and soon did this with the other relatives as they planned to overthrow her with Gumbald's new Dum Dum Juice.
Bonnibel overheard this and foiled Gumbald's plans and accidentally turned the three into simple minded candy people with the juice. She didn't change them back as they looked happy in their new forms and kept them in the dark about their identities for eight centuries. She later went through with Gumbald's plans to make a Candy Kingdom where she became its ruler. She rarely mentioned Gumbald in the present only giving brief information about what he did for the kingdom.
At the end, Bubblegum becomes aware he is back since she recognized the cup BMO had got from a scientist and was worried of what will occur.
In Seventeenshe was shocked to see him and the others in their original forms and realized how they changed back. The three wanted revenge as she tried to justify her actions but they wanted to see her endure their suffering but Marceline intervened and they retreated though Gumbald swore to return after mocking Bonnibel.
In " Gumbalia ", she is ready for war against her uncle and his new army and city-state Gumbaldia. Finn and Jake wanted to call off the war and went to confront Gumbald on the matter.
They were seemingly successful with Gumbald calling off all hostilities with his niece and splashed Finn and Jake with "celebration juice" with Gumbald telling the two to give Bonnie a big hug. PB was happy to have a signed by peace treaty and was about to hug Finn, but noticed the smell of the juice.
Peppermint Butler went to wipe the juice off only to become a baby-like peppermint seconds later. Bonnie then realized that the juice was Dum Dum Juice and her uncle had attempted to have subjected to it. Furious, Bubblegum officially declared war on her uncle. Finn was still unhappy and asked Bonnie to call off the war again. PB agreed to give Gumbald one more chance. The confrontation between Bonnie and her uncle was ugly. Finn and Jake then splashed themselves, PB, Gumbald and Fern with nightmare juice forcing them into hallucianry slumber.
Finn did it with the hopes of them learning to get along, thus calling off the war.

Inside the dream realm, PB and Gumbald continue to be hostile towards each other. Gumbald leaves the area and despite Finn's protest, Bonnibel decides to pursue him. PB and Gumbald later recreate a nightmare version of the moment that PB defeated Gumbald by dousing him with his own dum-dum juice, only this time with the roles reversed. PB is doused, and is transformed into a smaller, less intelligent version of hersel, while Gumbald was placed in the life of his niece, being very stressed and paranoid about the safety of the Candy Kingdom.
Gumbald and PB are later brought to tears after both witness the Candy Kingdom turn into a pile of goo in the dream. After the four of them wake up from their dream, PB apologizes to Gumbald for not respecting his vision for the Candy Kingdom.
Gumbald fake-accepts her apology and agrees to end the conflict, intending to betray her, but is tripped by Aunt Lolly and once again doused in his own dum-dum solution, turning back into Punch Bowl and officially cancelling the war. Before the crown wiped his memory, he cared for Marceline and wrote her a note about their friendship while apologizing for leaving her and explaining why he had to, which she eventually reads.
She finally admits to liking the Ice King, but only as a father-figure, as she stopped the Ice King from kissing her when he mistakes it for flirting and says she doesn't like him "that way. She doesn't fully understand the consequences of the ice crownand doesn't know how she can help or save him. They are seen together by Finn and Jake when they turn the messages into a song, as Marceline sheds tears while singing with her old friend.
In the Farmworld universe, Simon stops the Lich 's existence by using his powers to stop the mushroom bomb from hitting Earth, but is killed in the process. Distraught by this act of bravery, Marceline protects his dead body for the next thousand years, even avoiding becoming a vampire just to protect him and, more importantly, his crown. She says she loves him, and invites him to play basketball with Finn and Jake. She is shown to have a strong emotional bond towards him, thinking of him as a father, and being worried about his well-being and sanity.
She also reveals to Finn and Jake her history with him, meaning that she is not ashamed to have an affiliation with the Ice King. She sacrifices Hambo just so he can revisit his lost love for a short time to tell her he loves her.
In " The Empress Eyes ", Marceline tries to protect the Ice King from The Empressa Vampire who had hypnotized Simon and turned him into her thrall sometime before he completely succumbed to the ice crown.
Marceline also reveals that Simon was the main reason she began hunting Vampires, and it is suggested that she fought The Empress in the past in order to free Simon from her control. Despite previously following The Empress' orders and protecting her, the Ice King refuses to kill Marceline when The Empress commands him to.
Marceline eventually kills The Empress with the help of Princess Bubblegum. In " Take Her Back ", while suffering from the effects of the scorpion envenomation she received from her battle with The HierophantMarceline has a dream where a slightly older version of herself visits Simon who is living happily with Betty.
Later, Simon is seen making popcorn in her house for Marceline and Princess Bubblegum, suggesting their original friendship was restored along with the return of Simon's sanity. Finn Though they were initially enemies, Finn and Marceline soon befriend one another.
Even when Marceline acts as a bully in her debut episode, " Evicted! Both Marceline and Finn share the same spark for adventure and love of danger and excitement.
Marceline is very good friends with Finn, who she seems to trust and is very comfortable being around. One of the reasons Finn and Marceline befriend each other is that Finn saved Marceline's life in " Henchman " when Jake exposed her to the sunlight and threw garlic at her in a misguided attempt to help Finn. Although they were friends, Marceline still seemed to care about her Ax bass more than him, as seen in "It Came from the Nightosphere. They go to the movies together, but only as friends.
More recently, Marceline has expressed that she does indeed care for Finn's well being.

This is exemplified in " Heat Signature ", where she becomes more protective of Finn when her ghost friends take pranking him and Jake too far on what started as a harmless "vampire initiation. In the same episode, Finn sees Marceline naked as she is about to take a shower, resulting in Finn being very flustered.
Also, in the episode, Marceline forgives them for sneaking into her house even though she says not to. After hearing this, she jests to Finn that she doesn't want to hang out with him anymore. In " Bad Little Boy ", Marceline tells a story centered on the interaction between her male-counterpart, Marshall Leeand Finn's female-counterpart, Fionna. It is possible that she based the story on her own interaction with Finn. Even though Marceline claimed she only likes Finn as a friend, Marshall Lee seemed to think Fionna liked him more than that.
It is also possible that Marceline wrote it as a love story only to please the other princesses, but the former statement could hint at Marceline's feelings for Finn. She shows that they still have the same friendship they did in previous seasons, backing up that she was only jesting about not wanting to hang out anymore.

As he has a completely rational fear of vampires, Marceline often teases Jake and intentionally horrifies him when the chance is given. This perpetual bullying comes back to haunt Marceline, however, when Jake refuses to believe in her generally wholesome ways and nearly fatally wounds her in "Henchman.
Later in the season however, Jake gets over his fear, and he is often seen hanging out with Finn and Marceline as friends. He later considers himself a friend though, as evidenced in " Memory of a Memory ".
In the beginning of the episode, Rag Wizard informs Finn and Jake that Marceline is the one in trouble, and Jake begins to run faster. Later, when they run into the young Marceline and she asks who they are, Finn says "We're Finn and Jake!
In Season 5, they still seem to be friends. She repeatedly mentioned, or tried, drinking Jake's blood, and later Jake tried to eat Marceline before she could eat him.
