This ended up making Jim feel very uncomfortable because the consultant turned out to be a man, and he had to get a little handsy with Pam to actually help her with her child. This scenario is beyond ironic and amusing seeing as Jim was playing the jealous husband at that moment on the show when her real-life husband was the one assisting her with his touch. The same was the case when casting was happening for The Office. Additionally, Kathryn Hahn auditioned for the role of Pam. It would have been odd, in retrospect, to see any of those actors in these now iconic roles that we know John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, and Rainn Wilson for.
But what is truly surprising is the fact that the people casting the show actually wanted John Krasinski to audition for the role of Dwight Schrute, rather than Jim Halpert. A lot of the time the cliffhanger had everything to do with a milestone in Jim and Pam's relationship. In the season 2 finale, they finally kissed and we were all left wondering what that meant for them now. Would Pam call off her wedding to Roy?

We soon got our answer in season 3, when Jim was now at the Stamford branch, and Pam and Roy ended up eventually calling off the wedding. But the season 3 finale was an even greater torture. When David Wallace makes an offer to buy the company Michael negotiates in order to get their jobs at Dunder Mifflin back instead, including adding Pam to the sales team. In " Company Picnic ", Pam, after dominating the company volleyball tournament, injures her ankle during a game and is taken to the hospital against her wishes. At the hospital, the camera crew is stationed outside an exam room while a doctor updates Jim and Pam on her condition.
